Portland stone steps
Portland stone steps are ideal for both external and internal use. With a marble-like appearance Portland stone is highly unique and easily carved, an advantage when fitting the stone.The surface does not become slippery when wet, making it ideal for external steps.
In a large number of buildings over the last century many spiral or ramped and twist Portland stone staircases were installed. We have provided many large private residence with bespoke Portland staircases as well as a variety of portico’s.
At the design level a key issue with staircases is the location of the handrail support standards. The staircases themselves can have sunk carved panels or complicated geometric forms, exuding elegance and craftsmanship which are complimented by the stone’s aesthetics.
The raw stone is cut to order and masoned skillfully into the style chosen. Typically this consists of rounded bullnose edges to angled chamfer styles.
Standard walling is 100mm on bed to be used in an outer leaf of a cavity wall, sawn flat top and bottom, split to random lengths and heights. Other on bed sizes may be manufactured to order.
Random cropped split face walling
Our Portland stone walling Random Cropped Split Faced is £30m2 plus vat ex works. There are various types of laying and walling finishes that can be achieved. The stones have a cut top and bottom with a machine split face giving a natural appearance.
The re-use of the stone is reflected in the price as it comes from off-cuts produced in cladding projects within the factory.
Hand Dressed Walling
Hand dressed walling is available with its more rustic appearance. The edges of split faced walling are hand pitched to create a convex face. We offer this at £50m2 plus vat ex works but subject
