A trusted British manufacturer providing natural stone for iconic projects that enrich their surroundings.
Portland Stone Firms Ltd is a privately owned company, synonymous with producing the finest quality Portland limestone. Over the decades our specialist facilities, quarrying expertise and professional team have continued a reputation for excellence in masonry. We are a large-capacity production facility in the UK that continues to meet demand for our sought after natural stone through open-cast quarrying and modern mining techniques.
Clients, architects and contractors desire a quality product that is both low maintenance and able to meet project programmes. With over 100 years of history in the stone trade, Portland Stone Firms are continuing to play a major role in crafting a natural product. We have a freehold ownership of our 680 acre estate providing security that Portland limestone will be admired for decades to come.
Our modern factory uses the latest technology to supply high specification products, sourced from the whitbed, basebed and roach seams on the Isle of Portland. Furthermore we continue to operate the quarry that provided stone for St Paul’s Cathedral with limestone blocks selected by Sir Christopher Wren still visible to this day.

Contributing to history
Our iconic Portland limestone has been extracted from the same quarries for centuries.
From its initial use on the Banqueting House by Inigo Jones to Wren’s renowned St Paul’s Cathedral, Portland stone continues to prove it is strong under compression, extremely durable and elegant when sculpted.
Working with leading architects
Architects have long chosen Portland stone for London’s most prestigious buildings, for its natural beauty and attractive features.
Across the decades we have undertaken large, highly complex and prestigious projects with world leading architects. These include the Whitehall Cenotaph and Sixty Holborn Viaduct.
