Portland Stone Private Residence Progress

Posted by: Stonefirms    Tags:      Posted date:  September 9, 2011

A recent visit to one of our on-going private residence projects was undertaken to ensure our Portland stone’s quality had not been compromised and met the visual aesthetic of the Architect.

On-site conversations and walk-through meant we were able to highlight any problems to program or suggest solutions to any given issue. Any future developments could be assessed to see if we needed to change the order of any deliveries  or working methods.

Site visits are a matter of course and strengthen the on-going relationship between client, architect and supplier. When visiting we took a variety of photographs, which are a great method of recording progress, assisting construction and fixing methods. We often find it reveals the beauty of Portland limestone and is educational to anyone who wants to understand more about our trade.

A physical quality check on-site was beneficial as a final safeguard, ensuring our Portland stone masonry meets the agreed stone range and high standard. The feedback from on-site members was positive, delighting our mould cutters who expertly joint the stone’s to fit together precisely.

Any palletised stone deliveries were inspected, checking to make sure they had arrived safely in transit and are ready to be lifted into position in order. Portland stone architecture is always impressive when viewed up close and our colleagues are eager to see the finished result of the project.

The archways are a feature piece of the design that will house large windows. Overall we felt that the final outcome reflected a job well done and added a sense of grandeur that Portland stone provides.
